  • A Hover Of Hummingbirds - A female Purple-throated Mountain Gem (Lampornis calolaemus) flitted around this plant, hovering momentarily. I took all these shots in under a minute and then blended them to demonstrate how active this little bird is.

  • A beautiful female Violet Sabrewing Hummingbird (Campylopterus hemileucurus) in flight. Shot at 1/60th second to get the wing blur. So tricky to keep the eyes sharp at that shutterspeed.

  • A Green Violetear (Colibri thalassinus) hovering to feed in Costa Rica. I'm blown away by how beautiful all the hummingbirds were in Costa Rica - so delicate and colourful.

  • The Walking Ecosystem - A Three-toed Sloth tree climbing in Costa Rica. It's shaggy coat has grooved hair that is host to symbiotic green algae which camouflages it in the trees and provides it nutrients. Because of the algae, sloth fur is a small ecosystem of its own, hosting many species of commensal and parasitic arthropods . The algae also nourishes sloth moths. They in turn are responsible for fertilizing algae on the sloth, which provides the sloth with nutrients.
